National Latin Award Recipients Announced at Assembly
The National Latin Exam (NLE) is an annual test given to Latin students across the United States and worldwide. The NLE comprises 40 multiple-choice questions based on Latin vocabulary and grammar and Roman and Greek history and culture. The NLE is an opportunity for students to receive reinforcement and recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom. Depending on their score, students may earn certificates, and medals and may even qualify for scholarships.
This year, 60% of KO students who took the exam earned certificates and medals and 70% were above, at or around the national average. Many moreof our students were only one or two correct questions away from earning distinction.
Latin teachers Stephen Sullivan in the Upper School and James Ishiguro in the Middle School said they were grateful for the support of Spanish language teacher Juan Martinez. “None of this would be possible without his guidance and support,” Sullivan said. “We ask for something, and he makes it happen.”
Head of the Upper School Lisa Loeb was presented with a certificate of merit from the Latin teachers for her advocacy and support of the program.
