Football Team’s Care Beyond Self Community Outreach

KO’s ‘care beyond self’ ethos extends into our sports teams, as all the best teammates play unselfishly and put the team first. And, new head football coach Brandon Batory ’10 plans on doubling down on building empathy in his players. “One of the big things I want to emphasize with the team is community and ‘caring beyond self’ here at KO and around the area,” he said.  “We preach to the team repeatedly to love and care for others. Not only to love our teammates, coaches, families, teachers, and classmates but to everyone we encounter.  To further this beyond talk, we have decided that as a team, we will be doing several outreach programs this year.”

Batory has slated several opportunities for his players to stretch and build empathy muscles. The team recently organized a school drive for Community First School in Hartford. Batory heard that the school needed school supplies and the team stepped up, organized the drive, donated the supplies and spent about an hour talking with the young students at the local school. In October, the team plans to attend the games of the other Wyvern sports teams and cheer them on to rally school spirit. Since many local food banks are running low on foodstuffs, the football team will collect canned goods and other supplies in November.
