Caroline Sams: Soccer’s Rising Star

At just 13 years old, Caroline Sams, an eighth-grader from Farmington, is already making waves in the world of soccer as a left forward. With a passion that ignited at the tender age of four, Caroline’s journey in sports has been shaped by her experiences on the field and the invaluable lessons learned along the way.

Early Beginnings and Inspiration

Caroline’s love for soccer began when her father coached the local Farmington soccer team. “Starting at a young age definitely made my connection with soccer strong,” she recalls. The sport has not only been a source of joy for her but has also facilitated friendships that have enriched her experience.

Major Milestones

One of the highlights of Caroline’s athletic career came when she made the varsity team in seventh grade, a significant achievement that speaks to her dedication and skill. Recently, she was selected to participate in a Youth National Team Identification Center clinic, an opportunity that gathers top players from various teams in her league. “Itā€™s like a camp where we play together, and over the next couple of years, the list of players will get smaller as recruiting begins,” she explains.

Balancing Act

Caroline’s commitment to soccer is evident in her rigorous training schedule, which includes daily practices and weekend games. However, she emphasizes the importance of academics, stating, “I always put my academics first.” Through careful planning and utilizing study halls effectively, she ensures that her schoolwork is completed before hitting the field.

Managing Stress and Challenges

Like many young athletes, Caroline experiences stress, but she manages it by prioritizing self-care and knowing when to take breaks. Injuries have posed challenges, particularly at the start of seasons, but she approaches them with a mindset of patience and recovery, recognizing the importance of allowing her body to heal as she continues to grow.

Team Spirit and Motivation

Being part of her soccer team means the world to Caroline. “It’s definitely a family to me,” she shares, highlighting the strong bond among teammates. Their mutual support fosters a positive environment where mistakes are met with encouragement, further strengthening their collective resolve.

Role Models and Future Aspirations

When it comes to role models, Caroline looks up to her parents and soccer star Alex Morgan. Carolineā€™s dad played soccer in college and throughout his life. “Alex Morgan started playing soccer when she was around 13, and sheā€™s one of the best women’s soccer players ever,” Caroline admires. With aspirations to play Division 1 soccer in college, she is committed to maintaining her love for the game and playing for herself above all.

Advice for Future Athletes

Caroline encourages young girls interested in sports to give it a try without fear of judgment. “You never know where it can take you,” she advises, noting that sports can open doors to amazing opportunities, including college scholarships and even professional careers.

As Caroline continues her journey in soccer, her determination and passion shine brightly, making her a role model for aspiring athletes everywhere. Her story is a testament to the power of sports in shaping character, building community, and fostering lifelong friendships.
