Volleyball – Girls Varsity vs Greenwich Country Day School – Away

V Volleyball

The KO Varsity Volleyball team had a promising opening game against a strong opponent at Greenwich Country Day, losing 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-20) in some highly contested sets that demonstrated the depth and breadth of the Wyverns’ potential this season. In the first set, the Wyverns used solid court coverage to help neutralize the strong offense coming from GCDS. Co-captain Francesca Lamattina ‘25 set the tone with a strong combination of accurate sets, fantastic coverage on defense, and occasional offensive tips. Chloe Delaire ‘27, on the outside, was ready to convert her strong passing into incisive attacks. On offense, Lila Klinzmann ‘27, also playing outside, had some early measured swings that tested the opponent’s defensive scrambling. The Wyverns were close to winning out the set, but narrowly lost it 25-20. In the second set, GCDS took an early lead despite some spectacular kills from the Wyverns. To even out the score, Delphine Lamattina ‘27 showed her level-headedness in her varsity debut and fired a succession of consistent serves to give KO the advantage in each point. In the longest point of the game, a combination of great passing from co-captain Lola Peck ‘26 in the back row right side, quick reactions from Olivia Raccio ‘28 and Delphine L, and steady pressure at the net from Katie Reale ‘26 in the middle allowed Francesca L to produce a clever setter dump for a fantastic end to a fantastic point. GCDS then responded with strong serving that pushed them into the lead in order to take the set. In the third set, two early, dominant blocks from Peck on the right side got the Wyverns going again, reigniting both offense and defense. GCDS amped up their serving and offense, but the mid-court coverage of libero co-captain Alex Segal ‘25 along with a great mid-game block from Genesis Frimpong ‘27 in the middle kept the Wyverns hustling. Francesca L’s well placed sets allowed for more deep kills from Delaire, and the Wyverns fought back for a close finish to the third set.
