Volleyball – Girls Varsity vs Greens Farms Academy – Away

Varsity Volleyball

The KO Varsity Volleyball team had a close 5-set loss against a strong opponent, Greens Farms Academy (23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 8-15). In the first set, the Wyverns pulled ahead with diligent defense and pressure on serve. While providing solid sets, co-captain Francesca Lamattina ‘25 was also ready to cover clever tips from the opponent and throw in the occasional surprise attack. Delphine Lamattina ‘27 had a stellar service run, full of low, lasered-in serves, in the middle of the set to give KO a healthy lead. GFA fought back and narrowly won the set. In the second set, the points got longer as both teams dug in for the long haul. Libero and co-captain Alex Segal ‘25 had excellent coverage and occasional pinpoint sets to help the team weather longer points, and Lila Klinzmann ‘27 was relentless with deep strikes to GFA’s back row from the outside. The teams were back-and-forth with the lead until Chloe Delaire ‘27 took control on the service line and secured several points in a row to give KO the lead. The set ended with a devastatingly placed free ball kill from co-captain Lola Peck ‘26. The third set saw GFA come storming out of the gate and taking the lead until consistent, crushed swings from Delaire on the outside, a deadly-accurate deep attack from Katie Reale ‘26 in the middle, and a service run from Francesca L brought the Wyverns back in the set. A mid-set, dominant block from Peck and Reale helped re-energize the team, followed by another solid block from Reale and Francesca L. Then, GFA picked up their intensity on serve and in their hitting, and KO lost the third set. The fourth set was another close battle. Great aggressive hitting from Delaire, Peck, and Klinzmann, and consistent all-out defense from Segal and Francesca L kept the dream alive. A mid-set dig from Genesis Frimpong ‘27 followed by a one-arm save from Segal was the most exciting point of the match, really showcasing the Wyverns’ grit. Once KO took the fourth set, it was up to a decider. Despite some great plays, including an out-of-system set from Frimpong that led to a show-stopping kill from Delaire, GFA was too consistent in their offense and serving, and KO lost the game.
