V Boys Tennis
A score does not necessarily reflect whether it was a good day or a bad day for a team. Today’s match vs. Taft is a perfect example. Anyone glancing at a result (7-0 for Taft) might assume it was a bad day for KO, but the reality is that it was a very positive day. Taft’s talent and depth were clear going into the match. However, in many spots we played our best tennis of the year. The number 2 doubles team (Maclean and Peddapothla) played quite well, as did Saahit Gadditpati and Jacob Barash at #3 doubles. In singles, Ciaran Concepcion played an internationally ranked player who had not lost more than 3 games in a single set all season. Yet, 7 games into the match Ciaran was ahead 4-3 with some of the best tennis seen on court 1 in a few years. Although his opponent elevated to an even higher level, the 6-4, 6-1 result was impressive. At #2, Pratt Blair continued his strong play. The score might not show it, but his opponent is the two time defending #1 singles champion for our the Southern New England League who is now playing #2 !! Let’s just say that he would likely win his 3rd in a row if not for the exceptional addition to their team. Our hope is to play as well as we did today into our next match, as we face Berkshire. This will be another tough contest, as the two teams were evenly matched last year and appear to be so again this year.
