Tennis – Boys Varsity vs Taft School – Home

Varsity Boys Tennis

On Tuesday, May 8th, we hosted Taft, who is a perennial NE tennis power and the defending Class A Champion.

The last time we faced Taft was in the Class A finals last year, and they capped off an undefeated season with a hard earned win vs. a very talented and determined KO squad. Two years before, the situation was reversed, so needless to say both programs have enormous respect for each other. This match seemed like it would be a 4-3 match one way or the other, and that is exactly how it turned out. KO earned the always important doubles point with wins at #1 (Luke Riemann ’19 and William Appleton ’18) and #3 (Adam Na ’21 and Max-William Kanz ’22). This turned out to be a pivotal point. At #2, Taft saved three match points and edged Adam Sonntag (’19) and Nicholas Hamzavi (’20).

In singles. Luke Riemann, Nicholas Hamzavi, and Max William Kanz earned straight sets wins at #1, 5, and 6 respectively. This gave KO the 4 points needed to clinch the win. All three played very impressively. The player of the match for KO was Luke Riemann, who was powerful, consistent, focused, and efficient in both doubles and singles. At the other singles spots, Appleton, Na, and Sonntag all lost in tough 3 set matches that could have gone either way. The match was very much the close, hard fought that we anticipated.

Next up is Berkshire on Friday, May 11th followed by the Southern New England Tennis League tournament on Saturday, May 12th.
