Tennis – Boys Varsity vs Frederick Gunn School – Away
V Boys Tennis
After a long week that included away trips to Danbury and New Haven, we continued our road warrior week by traveling to Washington, CT to take on Frederick Gunn. After falling behind early in the doubles matches, we were able to turn the tide and earn wins at #1 (Concepcion and Blair) and #2 (Maclean and Peddapothla) to earn the always important doubles point. The #3 doubles was in a marathon pro set, which ultimately went our way in a tiebreaker as Russell and Gaddipati closed out the match with an impressive tiebreaker. Singles would test the depth of our team, as our #4 needed to rest his arm injury, so Saahit Gaddipati pushed up to #4, Russell to #5, and Roman Moray to #6. We were able to earn wins at 1, 2, and 4 (Concepcion, Blair, and Gaddipati) to secure the team victory. After a slow start, Will Maclean gained momentum to pull away for an 8-3 win, and Ian Russell closed out the wins at #5. Roman Moray played well in defeat to his steady opponent, whose baseline and net play were enough to keep Moray at bay. It was a solid team win, but the week is not done! We travel to Cheshire tomorrow morning to cap our fourth match in 6 days.
