Swimming & Diving – Girls Varsity vs , Kent School – Away
Girls Varsity Swim & Dive
It was a banner day for the Lady Wyverns as they traveled to the Kent School to face off against a very strong (and larger) team than in past years.
Our girls were not to be put off from the very first event, and what an incredible start! Co-captain Noa Boyd (’18) and her 200-yard Medley Relay team captured first place to start the meet, with a winning time of 2:12.50, beating the Kent girls’ A Relay by .26 seconds! Her team mates were Allie Wildstein (’22), Tanishka Dalavi (’21), and Laura Brawley (’22). Both teams were on the deck, screaming and cheering, and the Wyvern squad went nuts when Boyd and her mates grabbed the first place finish. Co-captain Emma Ouellette (’18) headed up her relay team, and they grabbed the fifth place finish with a time of 2:45.00. Her team mates were Jane Liang (’21), Risha Ranjan (’21), and Esha Shrivastav (’20). Amazingly, yet not surprisingly, Boyd got right back into the thick of it in the 200-yard Free, and she won that event with a finishing time of 2:24.26, a full 15 seconds ahead of the next swimmer from Kent. Shrivastav grabbed third place with a finishing time of 2:47.53. In the 200-yard Individual Medley, Allie Wildstein (’22) took the first place finish with a time of 2:25.65, and Ranjan took third with a time of 2:47.69. The Lady Wyverns continued to chip away at the Kent girls’ dominance, with Brawley winning the 50-yard Freestyle event at :28.42, and Ouellette took second with a time of :28.67. Liang snuck into sixth position with a time of :51.53. With each swimmer placing and scoring, our girls were slowly yet steadily racking up the points without Kent knowing it. Brawley won the 100-yard Butterfly, going 1:07.72, and Dalavi again showed her mettle, taking third with a finishing time of 1:20.13. In the always exciting 100-yard Freestyle sprint event, the results came in this way: Ouellette taking first (1:05.74), Ranjan taking second (1:07.02), and Shrivastav taking fifth (1:13.07). With consistent results like this, it was clear our girls came with every intention of winning this very important meet. Not to be outdone by her earlier performances, Boyd swam the grueling 500-yard Freestyle, and she grabbed second place, going 6:24.67. Our girls took the 200-yard Free Relay as well (2:02.14), and Wildstein took first in the 100-yard Backstroke with a finishing time of 1:11.45. Dalavi took third in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:36.62), and Liang snuck in again, grabbing fifth with a time of 2:17.12. In the last and probably most exciting event of the meet, the Lady Wyverns snatched away the 4 x 100 Freestyle Relay, with a winning team of Boyd, Ranjan, Wildstein and Brawley (4:14.70), going a full 6 seconds ahead of the second place team from Kent. Needless to say, these young women were absolutely stellar in their performances, and it will be a meet to remember for a long time to come. Very well done, Ladies!
