Boys Varsity Swim & Dive
Recently, the Wyverns hosted a tri-meet in which three teams come together to fight for the points, and we welcomed the Hornets of Hamden Hall and the Knights of Marianapolis Prep.
On the boys’ side, our Wyverns grabbed a hard-fought second place finish in the opening event, the 200-yard Medley Relay. Ben Zamstein (’20), Jamie Amell (’20), Ellis Winfree (’19) and co-captain Harry Krause (’18) finished with a time of 1:54.96, breaking the all-important 2-minute mark in the event. Marwynn Somridhivej (’20), Tom Betts (’19), Kian Issari (’18) and Carter Castanza (’18) took third here with a finishing time of 1:58.43. Our C Relay, comprised of Eden Nenshati (’21), Prith Gunturu (’18), Walter Kraus (’21) and co-captain Kevin Augustine (’18) grabbed fifth place with a time of 2:07.92. In the 200-yard Freestyle, Tim Petit(’18) just narrowly inched out the second place swimmer from Hamden Hall to win the event, going 1:54.60, beating the other swimmer by .03 seconds. It was exciting, to say the least. Co-captain Jaron Stake (’18) took third (1:58.40), and Nick Traver (’20) took fourth (2:01.25). In the 200-yard Individual Medley event, Kyle Zimmerman (’18) cruised to an easy victory, posting a time of 2:13.51, and Amell took third, going 2:20.41. In the always exciting 50-yard Freestyle sprint event, KO grabbed first, second and fourth places, handing KO more and more points toward an eventual victory. In 1-meter springboard competition, Eli Brandt (’23) took home the first place victory, amassing 174.80 points, followed closely by Castanza with 172.15 points, and Issari grabbing third with 165.70 points, effectively shutting down the meet quite early. In the 100-yard Butterfly event, Winfree took first in a very impressive swim, going :57.36, breaking the elusive 1-minute mark. Issari took fourth (1:03.16), and Felix Fei (’21) ended in fifth (1:06.36). The 100-yard Freestyle event proved to be another stomping ground for the gentlemen Wyverns, as they took the top three places: Petit (:50.88), Traver (:55.46) and Krause (:55.79). The next closest swimmer was almost 2 seconds off of the pace. In this event, that is a very large margin! Stake took second in the long-distance 500-yard Freestyle, going 5:31.95, and Zamstein finished in third (5:50.92). Fei rounded out the pack in sixth (6:08.69). Our boys took first in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, smashing the opposition with a winning time of 1:38.31. Our B and C relays in that event took third and fourth. Zamstein had his hands full in the 100-yard Backstroke, but he managed to garner a fourth place finish with a time of 1:07.70. Nenshati came in fifth (1:13.42), and Somridhivej finished in sixth (1:14.11). Zimmerman narrowly took first place in the 100-yard Breaststroke, going 1:08.34, and Amell was close on his heels, taking second place with a time of 1:09.33. Betts came in and took fourth place with a time of 1:14.57. In the final event, the 4 x 100-yard Freestyle Relay, our A team cruised to a comfortable second-place finish (3:35.06), and our B relay group took fourth place (3:53.47). Our C Relay took sixth, with the team of Marrich Somridhivej (’22), Nenshati, Kraus and Marwynn Somridhivej to finish off the two other teams. This was a spectacular meet for both our boys’ and girls’ teams. Come out and see their last matchup at our arch rival, Westminster School, on February 14th. GO WYVERNS!
