Squash – Girls Varsity vs Ethel Walker School – Away
Win 4-3
In their first official match of the season, the KO Varsity Girls squash team had a strong performance against Ethel Walker, pulling off a 4-3 win with several lengthy, hard-fought individual matches in the mix. In the no. 1 and no. 2 spots, Ava Marseglia ‘26 and Valerie Perkins ‘29 (in her first varsity match!) were models of consistency on the court, taking control of the “T” and using powerful, accurate drives to stay in control of the points for 3-0 wins. In their varsity squash debuts, Lia Prahl ‘26, Ella Chen ‘25, and Sanya Sadiq ‘26 in the no. 4,5, and 6 positions, respectively, put good pressure on their opponents with strong serves and deep shots. Varsity veterans Avery Hersh ‘24 and Alyssa Tousignant ‘25 were crafty in the strategy they applied to each shot, taking advantage of weak shots from the opponent to put the ball away. Tousignant’s 3-1 win in the no. 7 helped the team clinch the win. In exhibition matches for the day, Racheal Segal ‘28 served powerfully to pull off great wins, and Aliza Rashid ‘27 and Beverly Li ‘27 showcased the hard work they’ve already put into their technique in practices. The show-stopping match of the day was captain Ilianna Brett ‘24’s comeback 3-2 win from being down 2-0 in games. Brett dug into her straight drives and opened up the front of the court to turn the match around and navigated her way through some tense back-and-forth streaks of points for each player. Nice job, KOSQ!
