Softball – Girls Varsity vs Miss Porter’s School – Home

Varsity Softball

A rough start to this game proved to be a difficult challenge for the Wyverns to overcome.

With that said, the adjustments made by each player in the 3rd inning and beyond showed that we were easily capable of leveling the playing field and going toe to toe with our opponent. After the 3rd inning, we dug in on defense to stop Miss Porter’s from scoring for the rest of the game, and we had smarter at bats that narrowed the gap.
On defense, Gabi Abramson ’22 started off as our pitcher and struck out 2 batters in the 1st inning (with another strike out that became a passed ball). Kyra Dunnirvine ’23 took over in the 2nd, quickly striking out 2 players to get us out of a rough patch in the inning, and she went on to make 9 total outs in the game. Mackenzie Caruso ’22 made 3 spectacular catches in center field in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th innings, rushing in to stop the ball in its tracks and prevent some runs.
At the plate, we showed some good progress over the course of the game in terms of putting the ball in play to make things happen. Mackenzie started us off with a quick bunt in the 1st inning, making it to 1st and then stealing all the way home for our first run. In the 3rd inning, Josie Pinero ’20 hit a perfectly-placed grounder right up the 3rd baseline to reach 2nd and eventually score on a grounder hit by Mackenzie. In the 5th inning, some great at bats led us to score our third run, particularly a hard grounder to short by Lexi Vail ’22 that got her to 1st base and a calculated walk by Jocelyn Ram ’20 with bases loaded that allowed a runner to score.
