Soccer – Girls JV vs Pomfret School – Home
JV Girls Soccer
Our Wyverns played an excellent game at home on Hewett Day against a very competitive team and ended up in a 0-0 tie. During the first half of the game, our team was mostly on the defensive with our goalie Sam Almeida stopping several attempts on our goal and Reagan Heafey-De Angelis single handedly preventing one as well. We did have a couple beautiful attempts on our opponent’s goal made by Ida Chapman and Margaret Miller, but unfortunately we were unable to get one through. During the second half, both teams played more aggressively, and Sam Almeida prevented 7 attempts on our goal! She made a couple of amazing saves, one off a goal kick and one where she saved the ball 3 times in a row, first the ball slammed into her, then she grabbed for it, then it bounced off of her and an opponent kicked it in again, and then she fell onto it and stopped it for good. Clara Toomey also saved a ball out of the goal during an encounter with 3 opponents against her at once. Reagan made an impressive defensive move stopping the ball with her head and then sending it halfway up the field. Olivia Gallup, as a defender, was able to make an attempt on goal halfway up the field! There were more attempts on goal during the second half made by Margaret Miller and three more by Ida Chapman. Our Wyverns played extremely well and are continuing to improve.
