Soccer – Boys Varsity vs Kent School – Away

Varsity Boys Soccer

KO traveled to Kent on Wednesday afternoon and displayed great character and hard work in all areas of the field.

As has become a common trait of the team this season, KO started extremely strong and created a number of early goal-scoring chances but unfortunately couldn’t find the early goal. Then after 15 minutes, the game opened up, and Kent would show some good speed and transition with the ball; which was executed well by their key players and demanded excellent work from KO Goalkeeper Sawyer Burtman.

Although KO would continue to threaten, it was Kent who would find the opening goal to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

KO responded well and dominated large portions of the second half. Then after some great work on the outside, Corey Nguyen found the back of the net to give KO what they deserved. But after only 3 minutes, Kent, against the run of play, was awarded PK when Pratt Blair seemingly defended well using his body and strength to thwart the attacking player who was running to goal. Kent put the Penalty away to give them the 2-1 lead with about 20 minutes to play.

However, as we have seen continuously this season, KO continued to work and battle regardless of their predicament. Then, after keeping the ball in the opposition’s half for a long spell, Brandon Tavares would send an excellent ball which found its way into the back of the net with about 8 minutes to play.

KO, not content with anything but the win, pushed everything forward in search of the third goal, and after some excellent hard work and skill in the box by Alex Oliviera, the ball fell for Corey Nguyen who unfortunately fired his shot a couple of inches wide with the keeper frozen.

The final score would end 2-2, and the tied result was clearly disappointing to the KO players and coaching staff. This perspective demonstrates the standards set by the players and expectations based on their performances this season; in which the determination and sustained levels of hard work have been extremely positive.
