Soccer – Boys Varsity vs Dexter Southfield School – Home
Varsity Boys Soccer
The final game of the season was senior day for the Boys’ Varsity Soccer team, who faced Dexter in a home contest that would see both teams working hard for the win.
All KO Seniors started the game, including team captain Jack Neikrie, who had led the team impressively all season. It was a good start to the game, with Leo Sussman and Cary Duvall working hard up and down the field in midfield, and KO got in behind the defense on a couple of occasions early on.
However, Dexter also delivered some dangerous crosses of their own, but the defense, led by Pratt Blair and senior Scotty Cloud stayed strong and goalkeeper Sawyer Burtman made a couple of crucial saves.
But KO stayed strong and patient, and it was fitting when senior Alex Oliveira scored an excellent header from a set piece cross, which was delivered perfectly by Pratt Blair into the box. Oliveira, who timed his run well, leaped up above the oncoming GK to direct his header into the goal and give KO the 1-0 lead at half-time.
Although Dexter, who was coached well for 90 minutes, remained a threat, the second half was controlled by KO, and the Wyverns continually went forward looking for the second goal to seal the win. After some hard work, KO got their reward when the ball fell kindly to Corey Nguyen, who finished with precision from inside the box to seal the 2-0 win for the Wyverns and give the seniors the send off they deserved.
