Lacrosse – Girls Varsity vs Frederick Gunn School – Away
V Girls Lacrosse
Girls lacrosse made the trek to Gunnery on Wednesday and played on a grass field for the first time this season. We came out strong, putting extra energy into picking up ground balls and maintaining possession of the draw. In the first quarter both teams scoring twice, riding out a tie until the end of the twelve minutes. The second and third quarters of the game we struggles to capitalize on our opportunities in the offensive zone, though we did find the net 5 more times throughout. Gunnery played an aggressive attack, running organized play after play. While they found success enough times to take the win, we are incredibly proud of the way our defense kept Gunnery’s opportunities to a minimum. They confidently executed what we’ve discussed in practice these last few weeks. From playing a zone when playing a man down, to positioning their sticks in the passing lane, to communicating through screens set by our opponents, the defense truly found their flow. The midfield and attack players worked incredibly hard on the redefend causing multiple turnovers, and slowed down the ball on many occasions, allowing the defense to drop and settle in. Freshman goalie Sarah Balog played another incredible game, saving more than 10 shots on goal maintaining constant communication with the defense.
