The boys’ Kingswood Oxford Swimming and Diving team captured the KO Invitational with 286 points.
The boys’ Kingswood Oxford Swimming and Diving team captured the KO Invitational with 286 points outpacing Williston-Northampton 169, Northfield Mt. Hermon 164, and Avon Old Farms 162. The Wyverns were led by the experience of their seniors, by strong swimming throughout the day, and by good all-around energy. Their victory marked the third year in a row that the Wyverns won the KO Swimming & Diving Invitational.
The Medley Relay team of Ethan Brown ’20, Jamie Amell ‘20, Ellis Winfree ‘19, and Kyle Zimmerman’18, took 1st place in 1:48.89 while KO’s other Medley Relay of Ben Zamstein ’20, Tom Betts ’19, and Kian Issari ’18, and Harry Krause ’18 took 1st in the B final in 1:56.37. The Wyverns won the C final as Marwynn Somridhivej ’20, Prithvi Gunturu ’18, Walter Kraus ’21, and Carter Castanza ’18 swam to a time of 2:04.92. In the 200 Freestyle, Tim Petit ’17 paced the Wyverns with a swim of 1:58.58 to take 1st and Jaron Stake ’17 took 1st in the B final in 2:02.26. In the 200 Individual Medley, Ethan Brown ‘17 took 2nd with a time of 2:08.08 while Kyle Zimmerman ’18 won the B final in 2:20.40. The sprinters took to the pool in the 50 Free with Ellis Winfree ‘19 notching 2nd place in 23.71 and Harry Krause taking 2nd in the B final with a swim of 25.26.
In the signature event of the meet, the 100 Yard Underwater Relay, KO excelled as the team of Tim Petit ’18, Ethan Brown ‘20, Kyle Zimmerman ‘18, and Ellis Winfree ’19 took 1st place in a good time of 56.09. The Wyverns also won the B final in 1:04.50 as the quartet of, Nick Traver ’20, Ben Zamstein ’20, Kian Issari ’18, and Jaron Stake ’18 swam well to a time of 1:04.50. Completing the sweep, the Wyverns also won the C final in a time of 1:04.52 with the squad of Carter Castanza ’18, Jamie Amell ’20, Walter Kraus ‘21, and Harry Krause ’18. In the 100 Fly, Ellis Winfree ’17 took 1st place in 1:00.29, and Kian Issari ’18, won the B final in a time of 1:05.33. The Wyverns continued to swim well in the 100 Free as Tim Petit ’18 placed 2nd in 52.21 and John Hagberg ‘18 took 1st in the B final in 55.01. Nick Traver ‘20 won the C final in 56.45. Ben Zamstein ’20 took 1st in the 500 Free in 5:47.82, while Kyle Zimmerman ’18 took 1st in the 100 Individual Medley with a time of 1:01.12 and Jamie Amell won the B final in 1:04.28.
The Wyverns swam well in the 200 Free Relay as Nick Traver ’20, Kian Issari ’18, Kyle Zimmerman ’18, and Tim Petit ’18 winning with a time of 1:37.89. The B relay of Jamie Amell ’20, Carter Castanza ’18, Jaron Stake ’18, and Harry Krause ’18 won the B final in 1:45.21. The Wyvern C relay placed 2nd in the C final as Tom Betts ’19, Eden Nenshati ’21, Walter Kraus ’21, and Owen Chambers ’21 combined for a time of 1:52.68. In the 100 Back, Ethan Brown ’17 took 1st with a time of 59.96, and Ben Zamstein ’20 took 1st in the B final (placing 3rd overall) in 1:07.42. Jamie Amell ’20 led the Wyverns in the 100 Breast, placing 4th in 1:09.25 and Tom Betts took 1st in the B final in 1:13.12. In the diving, Eli Brandt ’23 placed 1st with a score of 154.70 points and Carter Castanza ’18,placed 2nd with 154.60 points.
Wrapping up the meet, the 400 Free Relay showed solid early season form as the C quartet of Nick Spina ’19, Marrich Somridhivej ’22, Adam Ovian ‘18, and Rohan Naik ’20 placed 8th with a time of 4:54.10 while the B quartet of, Marwynn Somridhivej ’20, Felix Fei ’21, Jaron Stake ’18, and Ben Zamstein ’20 placed 6th overall with a time of 3:57.45. The A relay swam well, as they took 1st in a time of 3:33.22. Swimming for KO were Nick Traver ’20, Ellis Winfree ’18, Ethan Brown ‘20, and Tim Petit ‘18. In addition to being good hosts, the Wyverns showed both enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.
