Varsity Football

The Kingswood Oxford Wyverns hosted the Pingree Highlanders on a humid cloudy day on Hoffman Turf Field.  The first big play of the game came in the way of a special teams turnover giving Pingree excellent starting field position. On a 4th and 9, they were able to convert a slant pass for the opening score and led early 7-0.  The KO offense was sharp to start with Stephen Bailey ’25 converting on his first 10 passes of the day, marching us right down the field. Travis Parsons ’26 had two excellent catches of 14 and 23 yards to start the day. KO joined the scoring festivities early in the 2nd quarter with a tough 1 yard QB sneak by Bailey ’25. The Wyverns aerial attack continued to dazzle with an incredible catch by Xavier Hernandez-Newton ’27 in the corner of the endzone for a 14 yard score mid 2nd quarter to go up 14-7. Pingree capitalized on KO’s 5 turnovers and was able to muster one more score before half but missed the XP and trailed 14-13 at the half. The Wyverns had an inauspicious start to the 3rd and gave Pingree great field position with them starting on the KO 13 yard line. Pingree was able to get in for their 3rd and final score leading KO 21-14 mid 3rd quarter. KO like all year showed teamwork, grit, and determination. The Offense made critical plays highlighted by a huge 40 yard run on 4th and 1 by Justin Morle ’26. The Offensive line made sure we finished the drive well with a 6 yard TD score by Morle ’26. Julian Przecioksa ’25, Nicklas Chomko ’26, Donovan Lampkin ’26, Zach DeWitt ’26, Lex Green ’26, Jackson Poulin ’26, and Teddy Ristaino ’26 were excellent in pass protection all day and clearing running lanes at key moments in the game. All tied at 21 we headed to the 4th. A back and forth affair, KO continued to have key mistakes with an INT at the Pingree 1 yard line and poor snap on a FG attempt. Defense was strong, making Pingree punt on 4 consecutive drives between the 3rd and 4th quarter. Late in the 4th with both teams exhausted the Wyverns made key plays. First, Kamden Laprise ’26 made an incredible catch and run of 47 yards to put KO in scoring position. On the next play Bailey ’25 threw the best ball of the season to Hernandez-Newton ’27 who made a strong catch in the corner of the endzone to help KO lead Pingree 28-21. The Defense was dialed in at this point and relentless pressure from Parsons ’26, and two sacks by Poulin ’26 and Chomko ’26 sealed the game. Christian Gordon ’25 was excellent in coverage all day leading the way with 6 pass Defensed.
KO, now 2-1 on the season, will go on the road for a huge game against 2-1 Greenwich Country Day on Saturday October 5th, 2:30 pm Kickoff.
