The Kingswood Oxford Wyvern hosted the Hamden Hall Hornets on a cloudy cool fall September afternoon on Hoffman Turf Field. The Wyverns started cold, unable to capitalize on an onside kick and Hamden Hall’s best player took the ball 62 yards to the endzone on the first play from scrimmage to give them the early lead 6-0. The Hornets remained hot and drove the field, 15 play 90 yard drive, to go up 12-0. KO knew this would be a long game and dug in. The resilience of the Wyverns has been on display over the past few years. The offense scored on the next 3 possessions to take the halftime lead 20-12. Kamden Laprise ’26 had several huge chunk plays and led the team with 144 receiving yards on the day. Justin Morle ’26 had an incredible game on both sides of the ball and was responsible for all 3 first half TDS ( 2 yard run, 7 yard run, 20 yard catch). Nick Chomko ’26 blocked a key punt that gave the Wyverns excellent field position. In the 2nd half, HH converted after a fumble from KO to tie the game at 20-20 early in the 3rd. From that point on, KO started to assert themselves as the superior team. DJ Biggins ’26 took over the scoring twice: once on an incredible acrobatic 56 yard catch and run and another on a beautiful 34 yard screen pass and run. Leading 34-20 the KO defense made the play of the game when Evan Tyler ’25, punched the ball out of the QB hands at the goalline and Christian Gordon ’25 recovered, leading to a key takeaway for the defense. HH was able to get a score late to make it interesting 34-28. After a great onside recovery by Gordon ’25, the Wyvern offense needed one first down to seal the game. After multiple runs and one incomplete pass it came to 4th and 7. KO rolled the dice and did not punt. The offense came through and Stephen Bailey ’25 hit Xavier Hernandez-Newton ’27 for a 10 yard gain and first down to seal the victory. Bailey ’25 had a career high 390 yards passing and 3 TD on the game. The Offensive line of Green ’26, Donovan Lampkin ’26, Julian Przecioksa ’25, Nicklas Chomko ’26, Zach DeWitt ’26, were tremendous all day given Bailey time in the pocket and allowing 0 sacks.
The Wyverns will look to go back to back at home against the always tough Pingree School on Saturday 9/28 2:00 pm Kickoff.
