Football – Boys Varsity vs Greenwich Country Day School – Away

V Football

The Kingswood Oxford Wyverns traveled to Greenwich, CT on a picture perfect fall afternoon to take on the Greenwich Country Day Tigers. KO yet again started slowly, giving up the opening kickoff and giving the Tigers the ball at the 3 yard line. After a quick score and Greenwich leading 7-0, KO dominated the rest of the first half. Greenwich was only able to muster 2 more first downs for the rest of the half. KO Offense on the other hand was firing on all cylinders scoring on 3 of their first 4 possessions. The scoring festivities started with Stephen Bailey ’25 hitting Xavier Hernandez-Newton ’27 in the endzone for a 20 yard strike. Next Bailey ’25 hit Travis Parsons ’26, on a gorgeous pass play and Parsons ’26 did the rest, running it in for 24 yards to give KO the lead 14-7. The final score of the half was DJ Biggins ’26 from 5 yards out beating a defender in the endzone for the score. Halftime 21-7, Greenwich showed no quit in the 2nd half alternating scoring with the mighty Wyverns. KO had some key big time plays to help secure the victory. Kamden Laprise ’26 was at the center of them with 3 big ones. A 54 yard pass catch and run, a key INT, and a 50 yard run to seal the game. Justin Morle ’26 was equally impressive with his dynamic running, going for 158 yards on the day and 2 TDs. The huge advantage for KO was the Offensive line Zach DeWitt ’26, Nicklas Chomko ’26, Julian Przecioska ’25, Donovan Lampkin ’26, Lex Green ’26, who manhandled the Greenwich Defense all day. KO racked up 285 yards rushing on the day and 445 yards of offense. The play of the game by far however was made late in the 4th. With KO winning 35-21, Greenwich was on the 4 yard line with a 4th down to go. Christian Gingeleskie ’25, was able to read the run play correctly and sprinted to meet the running back at the goaline and made a herculean effort stopping the offensive player short. It was truly a tremendous play! The Wyverns, now winners of 3 straight, will look to continue their winning ways playing Capital Prep Harbor School on Thursday October 10th at 3:30 pm Kickoff at home on the Hoffman Turf Field.
