Varsity Football

The Kingswood Oxford Wyverns hosted the Berkshire Bears on a windy, sunny fall afternoon on the Hoffman Turf Field. The Offense was able to start the scoring festivities with a phenomenal 34 yard pass by Stephen Bailey ’25 and an even better catch by Xavier Hernandez-Newton ’27 in the endzone. A heads up 2 pt play to Justin Morle ’26, gave us the early 8-0 lead. Berkshire was able to connect on a screen pass and broke free for a 90 yard score to make it 8-7. Turnovers stymied the KO offense with 2 fumbles and INT in the first half. KO defense was strong the remainder of the game only allowing 110 more yards the entire game. Berkshire was able to increase their lead with 1 of 2 interceptions for touchdowns in the game. Late in the first half the Bailey ’25 to Hernandez-Newton ’27 connection was big again, getting the ball down the 1 yard line. Morle ’26 who is unstoppable from that distance was able to pound it in to give KO the 15-14 lead at halftime. The Sun played a huge role in the 3rd quarter as the return game could not see the ball well off kickoffs. This led to an opening misplay on the ball and gave Berkshire prime field position. After a FG to make it 17-15, KO marched down the field and Morle ’26 again pounded it in for his 2nd score of the game and another 2 pt play making it 23-17. Berkshire was able to score twice more once on offense and 1 more interception for 6 to make the game 31-23 late in the 4th. Defense came up with another strong stop deep in our territory. Jason Mathews ’26 led the way with 12 tackles, 4 TFL and 1 sack. Cameron Thomas ’26 relentless pursuit was on display all game. After a botched FG attempt with great pressure by KO and incredible noise by our sideline, KO had one more chance. We marched down the midfield with 3 seconds left. After a big play to Kamden Laprise ’26, and multiple laterals KO was unable to find the endzone and ended in defeat 31-23. 5 Turnovers on the day proved very costly, and the wyverns were not able to capitalize on key moments. KO will look to get back into the Win Column versus Proctor Academy on the road Saturday November 2nd, 3pm Kickoff.
