Football – Boys JV vs Cheshire Academy – Home
JV Football
It was yet again a picture perfect fall afternoon on Hoffman Turf Field as the KO JV Football team took on the mighty Cheshire Academy Cats. It was a defensive affair all game with teams trading punts all first half. The scoring broke open late in the game with seconds to play. First a key 4th and 4, the offensive line of Jack Morris ’28, Jace Brett ’28, Teddy Ristaino ’28, Amir Waterman ’28 and Ashton Binalla ’27, did fabulous not flinching on a hard count. The Cheshire Defensive Line came across the line for offsides and KO got a fresh set of downs. On the very next play , John Sokale ’27 hit Colton Bowes ’27 on a deep fade ball for 36 yards to set up 1st and goal at the 7 yard line. Nex, Sokale ’27 scrambled left and hit Bowes ’27 again in the endzone for the first score of the game as the first half time expired. Sokale ’27 ran in the 2 pt conversion to make it 8-0 at half. The KO defense flexed its muscles all game and in the 2nd half, amassing 11 TFL 4 sacks and forcing 3 turnovers. Joe Small ’27 and Bowes ’27 picked up great drive killing INTs. Ernesto Ballesteros ’28 was unblockable at DE, securing 5 tackles, 3 TFL 1 sack and 2 QB pressures. However, the defensive and likely the play of the year (including varsity) came in the 4th quarter. Cheshire was on the KO 5 yard line looking to score. With a great blitz by Colton Zahner ’27, he made the QB throw the ball awkwardly and Isley Biggins ’28 did the rest. Biggins ’28 with incredible instinct, drove on the ball, secured the interception and then took it back 95 yards for the defensive touchdown, breaking multiple tackles along the way. It was truly a spectacular play!! The Wyverns were unable to secure the shutout as Cheshire was able to score on an 11 yard pass play as time expired. Regardless, KO was able to avenge an early season loss and came away with a huge victory 14-6! Now winners of back to back they will look for 3 in a row next Wednesday 10/16 when they travel to Taft for 3:30 pm kickoff
