Choate Invitational
9-14-2024
The KO Boys cross country team competed in the Choate Invitational this past weekend, marking the first competition of the new season. This competition is specially designed to be the equivalent of a team “scrimmage,” in that no team scores are reported and no individuals receive medals or trophies. This day represents a litmus test for runners after a summer of training and the preseason workouts. Another nice feature of the day includes the separation of races for veterans and novices who are new to the sport.
The Saturday of the 14th of September was hot compared to the weather experienced by runners in the weeks prior to the meet. High temperatures reached 87 degrees, which puts stress on runners early in the season. Nevertheless, on a 5.0 kilometer (3.1 mi) course that included many hills, the Wyvern boys did a good job focusing on the first race of the season.
First for the veteran boys was Dorian Ciscel ‘26, who finished with a time of 20 minutes and 30 seconds (or 20:30). Close behind Dorian was Caleb Quinby ‘26 and Alex Gumkowski ‘26 with times of 21:27 and 22:24 respectively. The novice boys also included good results for a season opener. Hayden Liddy ‘27 (new to the school) ran the course in a time of 21:28 and Arthur Tittman ‘26 (new to KO cross country) earned a time of 22:06. Form 2 student Quin Mulligan did well running with older athletes, scoring with a time of 23:47 and Che Shah recorded the fastest time for a third former in the novice race with a time of 25:42 Rounding out participation in the meet were Matthew Habeeb ‘27, Andy Shen ‘27, Dominic Brunalli ‘26, Sruthan Tokala ‘25, Ian Cardin ‘27, Jason Gu ‘27. And Alan Xiang ‘27
