Basketball – Boys JV vs Canterbury School – Away

JV Boys Basketball

In a tight and hard fought battle, the Wyverns took a loss to the Canterbury Saints 54-49. The game was unique: KO was at “half capacity” with just eight players, but those eight were mighty and fought to the very end. The first half was choppy at best; specifically, our team struggles to complete 3’s while the Saints continuously drained long shot after long shot. At halftime, KO was quickly gaining and the score was 23-18. Xavier Hernandez-Newton ’27 had a consistent and strong game in the paint, stealing the ball every other possession to return for a quick layup. Tyler Bergquist ’27 played aggressive and fast defense, and while some of the calls didn’t go his way he stayed strong from start to finish. Preston Scott ’27 had a bang up game, shooting from the three-point line for two of the three completed long shots by games end for the Wyverns. With 10 minutes to go, KO was near tied with Canterbury and the score was 36-33. Co-captain Ben LaFreniere ’27 brought the score to 36-34 with a foul shot and for a moment, things looked like they would turn around. Canterbury went on a run as one player hit three point shot after three point shot, and despite a serious comeback in the final two minutes KO still needed to convert a few more possessions to points if they wanted to win the game. With only two practices and one game to go, the team will need to pull itself back together and tighten up for Williston.
