This immersive camp offers hands-on experiences, engaging stories, and fun activities as we visit some of the state’s most iconic historical sites and museums. Working chronologically, campers will visit the Institute for American Indian Studies to explore traditional tools, crafts, and culture while walking through the outdoor replicated village; tour several houses in Wethersfield and West Hartford that represent life during Connecticut’s colonial era and the local experience of the American Revolution; inquire about changes over time at the Connecticut Museum of History and Culture; discuss art, architecture, and governance at the State Capitol building and legislative chambers; examine architecture and art at the Mark Twain House; navigate the nuanced challenges of slavery and freedom for those enslaved in Connecticut at the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center. Each day includes museum tours, outdoor activities, and plenty of opportunities to make new friends while exploring Connecticut’s unique story. By the end of the week, campers will gain a new appreciation for the past and the people who shaped it.  Meet Your Instructor: Steph Sperber Steph Sperber has been teaching at Kingswood Oxford for the last four years, and has taught History, Geography and Government for the past 20 years at public and private schools in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Hawaii.
