The Kingswood Oxford ice hockey program competes in the FAA and NEPSAC Leagues. The team is continually looking for players who want to challenge themselves on and off the ice. As a Wyvern hockey player, student-athletes will know they are a part of a unique team and program, which extends well beyond their current season or high school careers. The team’s home rink is South Windsor Arena, where the team has a locker room and filming available throughout the season and practice ice during holiday breaks. Annually, the team hosts a fundraiser for Team Tobati in honor of Ryan Gordon on an evening known simply as “Hockey Night,” one of the highlights during the school year.
Coach Hissick believes that hockey is a microcosm for life, and there are lessons learned that can be applied to one’s life. “In hockey and sports in general, there are moments of victory and defeat,” he said. “One of my jobs as a coach is to teach the players how to deal with adversity at the moment.”
Coach Hissick looks for dedicated players with mental toughness and a strong work ethic. He teaches his players the importance of self-discipline – taking care of themselves with proper nutrition and sleep and working out in the off-season and off the ice.
All Kingswood Oxford athletes have access to our 33-acre campus, with multiple playing fields, an artificial turf field, a multi-purpose fieldhouse, a yoga studio, and two fitness centers. Certified athletic trainers are on hand every day to ensure the health, well-being, and development of every student-athlete. Every team also reflects the school’s core values, demonstrating honesty, integrity, respect, learning with passion, and caring beyond self.
