Wyvern Nation Sports Wraps – September 12, 2019

Field Hockey
The Varsity Field Hockey team won 6-0 against Miss Porters in the home opener on Sept 11. As the game began, even in the sweltering heat, KO looked focused and ready to play. The Wyverns dominated the first half of the game with a lot of shots on goal. GoalieΒ Caitlin Budzik β€˜21 played a great game and had a shut-out. With her improving skill levels, Budzik is determined not to let much get past her. KO offense continued to work hard by staying low and attacking at the right times. Within the first ten minutes of the game,Β Isabelle Burke β€˜21 connected perfectly with the ball to sweep it into the goal. As the team started to approach the opponent’s goal for the second time, they were in a position to attack once again. Arie Lang β€˜22 and Tori Swanson β€˜21had beautiful assists and Cici Chagnon β€˜21 had a hat trick. KO entered the second half of the game overheated, but that was not going to stop the Wyverns. Swanson brought the ball down the field and had a fantastic pass into the circle to get the assist on the fifth goal scored by Alyssa Pavano β€˜22. The final goal was scored by Chagnon. Other game standouts were: Keegan McMahon β€˜21, Alex Arnold β€˜23, Cami Forslund β€˜21 and Margo Dogiewicz β€˜21 who held it down on defense and fought hard to keep Porters at bay. Abby McLaughlin β€˜21, Alex D’Addabbo β€˜20, Katherine Doar β€˜22 and Madeline Pelletier β€˜20 also played a good game.

Soccer
The Varsity Girls’ Soccer team opened the season with a 2-0 win over Wilbraham & Monson Academy on Sept. 11. Both teams battled through the summer heat and humidity for the entire 80 minutes. 15 minutes into the second half, Isabel Berckemeyer β€˜21 calmly placed the ball in the back of the net after a beautifully threaded pass by Catherine Daniels β€˜21. KO kept their composure and got a final insurance goal with about six minutes to play. Ainsley Vaughn β€˜20 took her space on the outside flank and served the perfect ball to Talia Impelluso β€˜23 who volleyed it into the back of the net. Wilbraham kept playing hard until the very end, forcing Jillian Wells β€˜20 to come up with a big save in the final minutes. On the day, it was a total team effort with the defense being anchored by the calm and collected play of Jamie Scarpantonio β€˜20.
