Tennis

Boys Varsity The varsity boys’ tennis team earned third place in a field of eight at the Southern New England tournament. Max-William Kanz ’22 and Teddy Keegan ’22 won the coveted #1 doubles draw, making them league champions. They defeated Loomis in the semifinals 8-2 and then won the final 8-3 vs. Hotchkiss. Max-William Kanz finished as the runner-up in the #1 singles final, losing in a 3rd set super tiebreaker vs. Taft. The score of the final was 6-3, 0-6, 10-7.

Girls Varsity 5/12 vs Williston Win 7-0 A great team sweep with quality matches played by Stella Dodd ’23, Hannah Malkin ’24, Yzzy Albert ’25, Irene Fotache ’24, Izzy Mendelovici ’25, and many others.

Girls JV 5/11 vs Westover Loss 1-6. In our match against Westover, JV Girls Tennis had its best showing yet in terms of sets won. While the final score was 1-6, JV won 27 sets total. This was while many players played for the first time either as a singles or doubles player! For example, Jhanvi Daddala ’23 faced a talented opponent in her singles debut, while Audrey Karasik ’24 played her first doubles game, partnering with Nidhi Bhat ’25, to win their set 8-4. Kaysy Lopez-Diaz ‘24 and Kaitlyn Finnerty ’23 also played together for the first time, nearly winning their match (6-8). JV continues to show impressive adaptability and resilience. Our penultimate game will be this Monday (5/16) at Taft.

Middle School 5/11 vs Eaglebrook Win 5-2 Drew Doering ’28 (#2 singles) and Lily Margolis ’26 (#3 singles) closed the door early with decisive 8-2 wins and Samit Virmani ’26 battled to win at #4 with an 8-6 victory. In doubles action at #1, Aarav Mathur ’26 and Eben Bauman ’26 hung on to win 8-6 as did Logan Barash ’28 and Max Daigle ’26 at #2 with a hard-fought 8-6 victory.

Middle School 5/14 vs Renbrook Loss 1-6 Logan Barash ’28 and Max Daigle ’26 battled hard but lost in a tiebreaker at #2 doubles and Samit Virmani ’26 and Zach Delcampe ’27 won handily at #3 doubles.

Girls’ Varsity 5/16 vs Taft Loss 4-5 KO lost a tough match to Taft 4-5. Christina Mullen ’23, Abby Baier ’23, Amrita Natarajan ’22, and Victoria Concepcion ’26 had great wins in singles.

Girls’ JV 5/16 vs Taft Loss 0-6 JV Girls Tennis played their penultimate match of the season, facing a talented Taft squad. While JV lost 0-6, several players kept sets very tight against tough opponents. For example, Clara Drag ‘25 showed off her capacity to place the ball in the tight corners of inbound play in her match, while Francesa Lamattina ‘25 fought hard in her long match. Additionally, Saanve Bathula ‘24 showed real grit by filling in for an injured teammate, playing both singles and doubles. Her doubles partner, Nidi Bhat ‘25, shone defensively in their game, as well. JV is looking forward to our last match, at Pomfret this Saturday.

Lacrosse

Girls’ Middle School 5/14 vs Renbrook Win 10-6 What a great way to end the MS girls lacrosse season! We’d like to give a special shout-out this week to our Form 2 players: Abigail Wildstein ’26, Lila Wedeles ’26, Vivianne Beaule ’26, and Lindsay Stepnowski ’26. Thanks for all your hard work and leadership!

Girls’ Varsity 5/14 vs Williston North Hampton Loss 5 -15 The girls’ varsity lacrosse team fought hard and left everything they had on the field on a warm Joe Alissi spring sports day against a strong WNH team, falling 15-5. The Wyverns played a close first half only being down 6-3 at the half. The heat and a WNH team that raised their level of play were too much for us to handle in the second half. Our girls never quit and gave their best effort through the game’s end. Chayse Shamleffer ’23 played a strong game as she anchored our defense from the cage and kept us in the game with 12 saves. Addisen Nicholson ’25 and Ella Wilson ’25 deserve recognition for stepping up and playing mid for the team in this game. Kaiya Deurloo ’22 led all KO scorers with three goals while Lindsay Bailey ’22 and Kami Tarantino ’24 each added a goal.

Girls’ Varsity 5/16 vs Suffield On Senior Day the girls’ varsity lacrosse team beat Suffield in overtime 10-9. It was an exciting game and a great win for the Wyverns. Our girls played hard throughout the game. Though we lost our lead and saw Suffield tie the game with four seconds on the clock we headed into overtime playing a woman down, but our girls maintained their composure, fought hard, and came away with the win on a goal by Kami Tarantino ’24 off a pass from Kaiya Deurloo ’22 with 1:20 left in the second OT period. Tarantino had three goals in the game, Deurloo had two goals and two assists. Allie Kotowitz ’23 and Abby McLaughlin ’22 added two goals and an assist each while Alyssa Pavano ’22 had one goal and one assist. Our transition game was solid as we moved the ball from our defense to our attack. Our defense as a group played a solid game and held off multiple player-up situations that Suffield had. Chayse Shamleffer ’23 was phenomenal in goal with 18 saves. It was a tremendous team win for our girls.
